Talk to me todayI have just got back from spending the day at Config 2025 in London, surrounded by fresh faces just as excited about Figma as I am. The energy was contagious, so I wanted to share some of that with you.
Here’s a quick rundown of the biggest takeaways from the keynote and a few standout sessions that left a real impression. If you're a designer, developer, or just Figma-curious, this year’s keynote had some really exciting updates that will transform the way you work.
Say goodbye to sketching in one tool and designing in another. Figma Draw brings freehand illustration right into the canvas. A new way to sketch directly in Figma. Think pen and paper freedom with the power of design systems behind it. It’s early days, but you can already feel the shift toward more fluid workflows where ideas don’t have to jump through five tools before they’re usable.
Soon you’ll be able to build a website straight out of Figma. Site generation is now part of the product story. Imagine turning your designs into real, working websites without leaving your design surface. It’s ambitious, and while it won’t replace full-stack dev anytime soon, it's a serious shift in design to web workflows.
Buzz is a new tool for creating quick, on-brand static content inside Figma. It’s ideal for non-designers who need to make updates or create content without constantly relying on a designer to jump in.
For us, this is especially useful when it comes to supporting clients with social media. We’ll be able to create a set of beautifully branded post templates, and clients can then build out their own content from there, keeping everything consistent and looking sharp, without needing design support for every single post. A more efficient and easily maintainable way to stay on-brand.
It’s safe to say we’re buzzing about Figma Buzz 😉
Figma Make is your new AI-powered sidekick for turning ideas into working prototypes fast. Just type a prompt, and watch it bring your designs to life as real, interactive UIs or even full-on web apps. It’s not here to replace designers or developers (no robot uprising just yet) but it can help to speed up the boring bits, allow you to test ideas quicker, and bridge the gap between design and function.
Grid is the latest addition to Auto Layout and it’s a game changer. Now you can create two-dimensional layouts that flow both horizontally and vertically.
Think: photo galleries, bento boxes, dashboards, and all those tricky web patterns that used to take way too many nested frames. With Grid, building responsive designs feels way more natural and less hacky. It’s flexible, powerful, and satisfying to use.
Vishal Kapoor and Kishan Koriya brought the room into the world of branding at scale, showing us how they tackled the Lloyds Banking rebrand – a company with over 250 years of heritage.
They explained the relationship between brand language and system design: how you need to construct, deconstruct, then reconstruct to build something that truly lasts.
Dan Hollick, Design Engineer at Tailwind CSS, gave one of the most thought provoking sessions. He took us through how most of the web is still living in the 90s, trapped in sRGB, and how OKLCH opens the door to better, richer, more accurate colour rendering across screens and platforms.
His breakdown of gamuts and how colours translate (or don’t) across devices was equal parts technical and inspiring. If you care about colour as more than just a hex code, Dan’s talk was a must-watch.
Christine Røde, now at The Browser Company (formerly WhatsApp, Facebook, Deliveroo), shared what it really means to design across platforms. Leading design for Arc Search and now Dia, she offered a sharp perspective on how to build experiences that feel native, whether you’re swiping on iOS or tapping on Android.
There were so many amazing talks. I could honestly chat about about them all day. But I’ll leave some surprises for you to discover yourself.
The good news? They’re all free to watch online! That said… being there in person, geeking out with other Figma fans? Totally unbeatable.
Figma’s not just adding features, it’s building out a world where design, code, collaboration, and brand all meet in one place.
If 2024 was about solidifying workflows, 2025 feels like it's about freeing them.
Config 2025 reminded me why I love this space. It's not just about pixels it’s about pushing creative tools to actually support the messy, magical process of building something real.
If you haven’t watched the keynote yet, grab a coffee, get comfy, and dive in. There’s a lot to be excited about - watch it here!
