Flat design has been around for a while, it’s likely that we’ll see the following further trends in flat design come to light:

Simple typography & Minimalism

Simple typefaces help to ensure that text remains legible in flat design. Designers are cutting down the number of elements on a page in order to create a fresh, uncluttered website with clear user direction.

Ghost Buttons

These allow for functionality without distracting from the user experience and are often represented as outlined, clickable links that change when the user hovers over them.

Enhance Your Site with Animation

Animations are being used more and more to enhance a sites experience, see some of the current popular animation techniques in 2016:

Loading animations: These are used to entertain users and delight users in an otherwise boring experience. Loading animations are popular in flat design, one pages sites.

Navigation and Menus

Navigation menus that are hidden or thinner have become increasingly popular, especially as this can be used to save screen space.

Hover effects give a better user experience when on a site, it allows the user to discover more content using their mouse to look throughly throughout the site.

Motion Animation

We see a rise in motion animation being used to explore products or used as an infographic. Our eyes are drawn to motion, it brings the user to explore the product in more detail and a more intriguing form.

Smooth scrolling relies on animation and gives further control to the user, who cn determine the pace of how it unfolds.
